Gender-based division of labor in coastal areas creates an imbalance in the division of labor among fishing families. The rising cost of living encourages dual roles, and requires a more balanced division of labor. This study aims to examine the division of labor between fishermen and their constraints in the domestic and public sectors in Labuhan Haji Village, East Lombok. This study uses role theory to find out the roles of husbands and wives in the household, then Nature & Nurture theory to analyze the division of labor and the concept of gender injustice to analyze injustice in the division of labor. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive case study approach. Data were collected through non- participatory observations, interviews, and documentation. The data sources used consist of primary data and secondary data. Data analysis was carried out using data condensation techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. Furthermore, the validity of the data used in the study is the triangulation technique which includes triangulation of techniques, triangulation of sources, and triangulation of theories. The results of this study show that the division of labor in fishing households in Labuhan Haji Village is not balanced. Women are more dominant in domestic activities, such as cooking, washing, taking care of children, but sometimes when they have free time, the husband participates to help his wife, especially in terms of taking care of children. In the public sector, the husband has the main job as a fisherman, and the wife, in addition to working in the domestic sector, also participates in working outside the home as a fishmonger and trader on the beach. This injustice in the division of labor occurs due to the double burden on women, economic conditions, as well as the influence of patriarchal culture and low education levels.
