Abstrak

The West Sekotong Coastal is a promising tourism location as well as a job opportunity for women workers in the informal sector there, but there have not been many studies that specifically focus on the characteristics of women workers in the informal sector of the tourism sector. This study aims to determine the socioeconomic characteristics of women workers in the informal sector of the tourism sector in the West Sekotong Coast. The research method used is qualitative with a case study research strategy. The research location is the Coast in West Sekotong Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency. Research informants are women informal sector workers in the tourism sector who are selected using purposive techniques. The data sources used are primary and secondary data sources collected by various techniques, namely observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was performed using interactive models. The socioeconomic characteristics of women workers in the informal sector of the tourism sector consist of various aspects which include: 1). The variety of work done by informal sector workers in tourism is very limited, namely as traders / food stall workers and as food makers / snacks for tour packages, 2). The age level of women informal workers along the coast of West Sekotong has an age range of 20 years to 41 years and over.  3). Marital status of women who work there, namely from married status or widow / divorce, 4). Their level of education consists of those who did not finish elementary school, graduated from elementary school to graduated from MA / SMA / SMK, 5). Their income also consists of several levels, namely indeterminate or<200,000, 200,000-300,000, and indeterminate or ≥300,000, 6). The source of business capital comes from personal sources and husband/family/relatives. These socioeconomic characteristics have implications for women's work participation.
