Abstrak

The Rebo Bontong traditional ritual is a traditional ritual of the Pringgabaya people which is carried out once a year every Wednesday at the end of the month of Safar. This activity was carried out to prevent disease from coming to every house that day, so people flocked to the beach to take a Safar bath or clean bath to avoid disease. The Sasak tribe itself is the original population of the island of Lombok in the West Nusa Tenggara region. In essence, every traditional or traditional procession contains philosophical and social values ​​which often represent and are represented by certain symbols. Expressing the values ​​of the ancestors of the Sasak tribe is often interpreted in depictions through the media, both in the form of ceremonial and objects as symbols, including the Rebo Bontong tradition which is traditionally considered to strengthen the community's relationship with nature, customs and God, while maintaining existence or purity. a custom that has been carried out for generations by the traditional Sasak tribe. This research uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach and social reality construction theory. Sampling was carried out purposively and aimed at the village head and a number of traditional community stakeholders. Primary and secondary data will be collected through in-depth interviews, observation and literature study. Based on the results obtained from research that has been carried out, it shows that the Rebo Bontong Ritual tradition is interpreted from several points of view, including: 1. Type of tradition; as a ritual of cleansing oneself from disease and rejecting evil 2) The purpose of tradition; Strengthening people's relationship with nature, customs and God as well as maintaining the existence or purity of customs that have been carried out for generations. 3) Implications of tradition; if it is not done, it will be considered less elegant/ethical. 4) Message in tradition; The Rebo Bontong tradition has deep meaning for the Sasak tribe community, especially the Pringgabaya village of East Lombok. The Safar bathing ritual is carried out as a form of self-cleaning, both physically and spiritually. 5) the function of tradition; as a value transfer medium, value transformation medium and traditional media
