Abstract

Understanding how to use Indonesian properly and correctly according to Indonesian language rules is one of the skills that all students must have. This ability is very necessary in completing lecture assignments, especially those related to writing scientific papers such as papers, essays, articles and theses. In practice, it turns out that many students make mistakes using standard Indonesian in pronunciation and writing their assignments. This research aims to determine students' abilities and weaknesses in writing scientific papers in terms of linguistic aspects. Based on these linguistic weaknesses or errors, materials will be formulated that will be included in the Indonesian language module design. The targets of this research were four classes of first semester students at FKIP Mataram University. This research is a qualitative research. The data collection method is carried out using the test method, namely students are asked to write scientific papers in the form of papers. Data were analyzed using the content analysis method. Data is presented in text and table form. The research results showed that there were several linguistic errors in student papers. These errors include a) errors in writing titles, b) errors in writing letters, c) errors in writing punctuation, d) errors in using conjunctions, e) errors in writing words (prepositions and affixes), f) use of words not standard, and g) errors in writing the bibliography. Based on these errors, several topics were also determined that contained appropriate linguistic material, namely 1) academic texts, 2) scientific papers, 3) spelling, 4) words, and 5) self-editing.
