Abstract

Welding is a general method of connecting metals, to get good welding results there are many methods and materials that can be used, but sometimes the welding results have shear strength that is less than optimal in its application, therefore modifications need to be made to the connection process to obtain shear strength values. the optimal one. Departing from this problem, this research applies the hybrid method to find the optimal shear strength value. This method uses two different joint variations to be combined, namely spot welding and adhesive bonding processes. Joint specimens will be tested using UTM (ultimate tensile machine) as well as microstructure tests. This research uses low carbon steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm and varies the connection process in the form of gluing and spot welding. Using various types of glue (araldite 5 minutes, araldite 90 minutes and devcon 90 minutes) and thickness variations (0.2 mm, 0.6 mm and 1 mm). From the results of this research, the optimal shear strength of the test specimens was obtained, namely in the adhesive bonding speciment the optimal shear strength was found in the adhesive thickness of 0.6 mm, 5 minute araldite type, which was 5.04 MPa, and for the Hybrid spot welding and adhesive bonding speciment, the shear strength was obtained, optimally at a thickness of 0.6 mm, 5 minute araldite type is 5.103 MPa
